Description

This Best Damn Bread Pudding is a classic dessert with tender chunks of brioche or challah soaked in rich custard, baked to golden perfection, and served with homemade caramel sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread (approx 1 lb.), preferably stale
  • 5 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350℉ and generously grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  2. Cut the brioche or challah bread into 1-inch chunks and place them into the dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, sugar, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread pieces, ensuring all are coated.
  5. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until the custard is set and the bread is golden brown.
  6. In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring for 5 to 7 minutes until smooth.
  7. Add heavy cream to the mixture, stir until combined, then remove from heat.
  8. Cut the bread pudding into slices and serve warm with caramel sauce.
