Description

Chicken Bhuna is a flavorful dish made with a blend of spices that create a rich sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds chicken, cut into pieces
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, slit (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish
  • 1/2 cup water (as needed)

Instructions

  1. In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring continuously.
  5. Toss in the chicken pieces, ensuring they are well coated with the spices. Cook until the chicken is browned on all sides.
  6. Pour in the pureed tomatoes and mix well. Cook for about 5 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  7. Add water as needed to create a sauce. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Once the chicken is cooked through, sprinkle with garam masala and adjust salt to taste. Stir and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  9. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
