Description
A delicious chocolate orange marble cake with a rich flavor and a vibrant glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- Zest of 1 large orange
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup boiling water
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2–3 tablespoons fresh orange juice (for glaze)
- Zest of 1 orange (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3–4 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract and orange zest.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix the cocoa powder with boiling water until smooth. Fold half of the cake batter into the cocoa mixture until well combined.
- Spoon alternating dollops of the vanilla batter and chocolate batter into the prepared cake pan. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the batters together to create a marbled effect.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and enough orange juice to achieve a smooth, pourable consistency.
- Once the cake is completely cooled, drizzle the orange glaze over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.
- Sprinkle with additional orange zest for garnish.
- Slice and serve.
