Description

A delicious chocolate orange marble cake with a rich flavor and a vibrant glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 23 tablespoons fresh orange juice (for glaze)
  • Zest of 1 orange (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3–4 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract and orange zest.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix the cocoa powder with boiling water until smooth. Fold half of the cake batter into the cocoa mixture until well combined.
  7. Spoon alternating dollops of the vanilla batter and chocolate batter into the prepared cake pan. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the batters together to create a marbled effect.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and enough orange juice to achieve a smooth, pourable consistency.
  10. Once the cake is completely cooled, drizzle the orange glaze over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  11. Sprinkle with additional orange zest for garnish.
  12. Slice and serve.
