Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Beef, chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil, divided
  • 1 tablespoon Niter Kibbeh
  • 1 large Onion, chopped
  • 12 Spicy Chilies, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, chopped
  • 34 cloves Garlic, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Berbere Spice Blend
  • 1 cup Tomato Sauce
  • 1 Tomato, chopped
  • Injera or Pita

Instructions

  1. Season the beef with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the beef pieces in batches and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove to a bowl.
  3. Add the remaining oil to the pan along with the niter kibbeh.
  4. Sauté the onion and chilies for 5 minutes until softened.
  5. Mix in the garlic, ginger, and berbere spice blend. Cook for 1 minute.
  6. Combine the tomato sauce and chopped tomato into the pan. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  7. Return the cooked beef to the pan and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
  8. Serve hot with injera or warmed pita.
