Description
Green Bean Casserole – A rich, creamy dish with crispy onions for the perfect holiday side dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and cut (or 2 cans of green beans, drained)
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup milk (or heavy cream for extra richness)
- 1 tsp soy sauce (optional, for depth of flavor)
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (optional, for greasing)
Instructions
- If using fresh green beans, trim the ends and cut them into bite-sized pieces. Blanch them in boiling water for 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp, then drain and set aside. If using canned green beans, simply drain them and proceed to the next step.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk (or heavy cream), soy sauce (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Stir everything together until smooth and well-combined.
- In a 9×13-inch baking dish, combine the green beans and the mushroom sauce. Stir to coat the beans evenly with the sauce.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the casserole, uncovered, for 25 minutes. The sauce should be bubbling, and the casserole should be hot and creamy.
- After 25 minutes of baking, remove the casserole from the oven. Sprinkle the fried onions over the top and return the casserole to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the onions are golden and crispy.
- Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. It’s best enjoyed warm, but it can also be served at room temperature.
Notes
- Enjoy it as a side dish for your holiday meals or any cozy dinner.
