Description

Green Bean Casserole – A rich, creamy dish with crispy onions for the perfect holiday side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and cut (or 2 cans of green beans, drained)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk (or heavy cream for extra richness)
  • 1 tsp soy sauce (optional, for depth of flavor)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (optional, for greasing)

Instructions

  1. If using fresh green beans, trim the ends and cut them into bite-sized pieces. Blanch them in boiling water for 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp, then drain and set aside. If using canned green beans, simply drain them and proceed to the next step.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk (or heavy cream), soy sauce (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Stir everything together until smooth and well-combined.
  3. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, combine the green beans and the mushroom sauce. Stir to coat the beans evenly with the sauce.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the casserole, uncovered, for 25 minutes. The sauce should be bubbling, and the casserole should be hot and creamy.
  5. After 25 minutes of baking, remove the casserole from the oven. Sprinkle the fried onions over the top and return the casserole to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the onions are golden and crispy.
  6. Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. It’s best enjoyed warm, but it can also be served at room temperature.
