Description

These Halloween Donuts are fun, festive, and surprisingly easy! Using store-bought glazed donuts, you’ll transform them into spooky treats with a simple orange glaze and colorful sprinkles. Perfect for parties, kids’ activities, or last-minute desserts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 Glazed Donuts – use fresh ones for best results
  • 16 ounces Pre-Made White Frosting – vanilla works best
  • Orange Gel Food Coloring – for bold color without thinning frosting
  • Halloween Sprinkles – choose mixes with orange, black, purple, or candy eyes
  • Optional: Black gel food coloring – for a two-tone effect
  • Optional: Candy eyeballs – to make monster faces
  • Optional: Crushed chocolate cookies – for spooky dirt topping

Instructions

  1. Place the frosting into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for about 30 seconds until slightly runny but not hot.
  2. Stir in orange gel food coloring until you get a bright pumpkin-orange shade. Gel coloring is important because it won’t thin the frosting.
  3. Dip the top of each glazed donut into the frosting. Twist slightly to ensure the entire surface is evenly coated.
  4. Set the donuts on a wire rack so the frosting can firm up. Placing parchment under the rack helps with clean-up.
  5. While the frosting is still tacky, add Halloween sprinkles generously. This locks them in place.
  6. Optional: Add candy eyeballs or use black gel icing to draw spider webs, monster faces, or jack-o-lantern designs.
  7. Allow donuts to set for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use gel, not liquid food coloring, for brighter and smoother frosting.
  • Chill donuts in the fridge for 10 minutes before dipping — it prevents the glaze from sliding off.
  • Double-dip donuts for a thicker bakery-style glaze.
  • Add candy decorations before the frosting hardens.
  • Swap orange for green or purple glaze to match different Halloween themes.
  • If kids are decorating, set out bowls of toppings so everyone can make their own spooky donut.
