Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
- 8 oz lo mein noodles or spaghetti
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 green onions, sliced
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- Cook the noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside. Rinse lightly to prevent sticking.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- In a small bowl, whisk soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, water, and cornstarch.
- Pour the sauce into the skillet with the beef. Cook for 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Add the cooked noodles and toss until evenly coated.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot.
Notes
- Use fresh garlic and ginger for the best flavor.
- Cook noodles to al dente to prevent them from becoming mushy.
- Add red pepper flakes or sriracha for extra heat.
- Swap ground beef for turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
- Double the sauce if you prefer extra saucy noodles.
