Description
This Peppermint Hot Chocolate recipe offers a rich, creamy, and mint-infused warm beverage perfect for cozying up on a cold day or celebrating the holiday season.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup milk (whole or 2% preferred)
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1 to 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- pinch kosher salt
- 3 ounces finely chopped semisweet chocolate or chocolate chips (about 1/2 cup)
- whipped cream
- marshmallows
- crushed candy canes
Instructions
- In a pot, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, peppermint extract, and a pinch of kosher salt until well mixed.
- Place the pot on the stove over medium-low heat and warm the mixture until bubbles begin to form around the edges of the pan, being careful not to let it boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the finely chopped semisweet chocolate. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is fully melted, the mixture is glossy, and slightly thickened, about 1 to 2 minutes.
- Pour the hot chocolate into a mug and top with lightly sweetened whipped cream or marshmallows. Sprinkle crushed candy canes on top for a festive garnish if desired.
