Description
Make these fun and spooky Sausage Mummies for a delightful Halloween snack. Kids will love wrapping sausages in golden puff pastry ‘bandages’ and adding edible eyes. They’re quick, easy, and perfect for parties or lunchboxes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet (about 250 g) ready-rolled puff pastry
- 10 small sausages (or mini hot dogs)
- 1 beaten egg (for egg wash)
- Edible candy eyes or small dots of mayonnaise/mustard for decoration
- Optional: A sprinkle of sesame seeds or poppy seeds before baking
- Optional: A pinch of garlic powder or herbs for seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Unroll puff pastry and cut into ½-inch (1 cm) strips using a knife or pizza cutter.
- Wrap each sausage with pastry strips, leaving small gaps to look like mummy bandages and a space for the face.
- Arrange on the tray and brush lightly with beaten egg for a glossy golden finish.
- Bake for 18–20 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Let cool for a few minutes, then add edible eyes or small dots of mayonnaise or mustard.
- Serve warm or at room temperature with ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dips.
Notes
- Keep pastry cold for best puff and crispness.
- Don’t wrap too tightly — pastry expands as it bakes.
- Leave gaps between strips for authentic “bandage” texture.
- Brush with egg wash for a shiny, golden finish.
- Add eyes only after baking to prevent melting.
