Description

Create spooky spider cookies perfect for your Halloween party. This easy recipe guides you through making these creepy-crawly treats with simple decorating ideas.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup black decorating gel
  • 1/2 cup candy eyes
  • 1 package black licorice laces, cut into 3-inch pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart. These are your spooky spider cookie bases.
  7. Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are set. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once the cookies are completely cool, use the black decorating gel to draw a spider web design on each cookie.
  9. Attach two candy eyes to the center of the web with a small dot of decorating gel.
  10. Gently insert four pieces of black licorice lace into each side of the cookie to create spider legs. These are your Halloween spider cookies.
  11. Repeat these steps to make more spooky spider cookies for your Halloween party.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure your butter and eggs are at room temperature.
  • Adjust baking time slightly depending on your oven.
  • Get creative with different types of candy for the spider eyes.
  • You can also use pretzel sticks or chocolate chips for the spider legs.
  • These spooky spider cookies are a great activity for kids.
