Savory Thanksgiving Peas Side Dish – Fresh, Easy & Flavorful


Ingredients

  • 4 cups (550 g) frozen peas
  • ½ cup (70 g) diced turkey bacon or smoked turkey pieces
  • 1 small onion or shallot, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley or thyme

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook diced turkey bacon for 3–4 minutes until lightly browned.
  2. Add butter or olive oil, then stir in onion or shallot. Cook 2–3 minutes. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  3. Add peas straight from frozen. Cook 3–5 minutes until heated through and bright green. Season with salt and pepper. Add lemon juice if desired.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in fresh parsley or thyme. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Replace turkey bacon with smoked chicken bits
  • Use ghee instead of butter
  • Add red pepper flakes for spice
