Description

Classic Italian dessert made with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and mascarpone cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup brewed espresso (or strong coffee, cooled)
  • 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2430 ladyfingers (savoiardi)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)
  • Dark chocolate shavings (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Brew the espresso or strong coffee and let it cool. If using, mix in the coffee liqueur and set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together 3 egg yolks and 1/2 cup sugar until pale and creamy.
  3. Gently fold in 1 cup mascarpone cheese until smooth and well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  5. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.
  6. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure they are soaked but not soggy.
  7. In a rectangular or square dish, arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over them.
  8. Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers, followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  9. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4–6 hours, or overnight for best results.
  10. Before serving, dust the top with unsweetened cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
  11. Cut into squares and serve chilled. Enjoy!
