Description
These Valentine’s Day Orange Chocolate Creams combine a luscious, tangy orange-flavored cream center with a smooth dark or milk chocolate coating.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons corn syrup
- 1 1/2 tablespoons water
- 1 1/2 tablespoons butter, cubed
- 1 teaspoon orange extract or oil
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Orange food coloring, to desired color
- 1 1/2 cups dark or milk chocolate (your preference)
- 1 teaspoon vegetable shortening
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine confectioners’ sugar, corn syrup, water, cubed butter, orange extract, vanilla extract, and orange food coloring. Mix until fully combined and the mixture becomes sticky and smooth.
- Wrap the mixture tightly in cling wrap and place it in the freezer. Allow it to chill for 30 minutes so it firms up.
- Using a double boiler, melt the chocolate completely. If the melted chocolate is too thick for dipping, stir in 1 teaspoon of vegetable shortening to thin it slightly.
- Quickly remove the chilled filling from the freezer and cut it into pieces of your desired size. Roll each piece to your preferred thickness. Return the cut pieces to the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Work in small batches, taking a few pieces out at a time from the freezer. Dip each piece thoroughly into the melted chocolate, coating completely.
- Place the dipped creams on parchment paper or a silicone mat to set and harden at room temperature or in the fridge if needed.
- Once the chocolate coating has hardened, the treats are ready to enjoy.
